Explore the Museum’s evocative World War I Gallery and find out about trench warfare through our wide range of military equipment, personal items and first-hand accounts including photographs, letters and military documents.

World War I – Handling Box

 

Bring World War I to life by getting hands-on with our collection of original and replica objects and documents. Handle an original Service Dress Jacket and embroidered postcard and try on a replica gas mask.

 

Worksheets and information on the items are included in the box. The box can be used either in the classroom or in conjunction with a visit to the Museum.

Additional Resources

 

Enrich your learning with our extensive collection of World War I documents, extracts and photographs. This vivid collection is excellent way to bring the experiences of Scottish soldiers into the classroom.

 

Examine personal letters, read about the soldier who was to be shot for falling asleep at his post and look at images of military equipment and soldiers on the front line.
