It’s been another busy year for the Band, with most of our regular engagements and some new ones. To mention a few of the latter, in March we played for the Police Cadets “Passing Out” Parade at Tulliallan Police College — the first of a series of three similar parades during the College’s training year.
Next, during the last weekend of July, we performed at the Callander Highland Games to appreciative audiences on both the Saturday and Sunday. As the weather was warm, we paraded in “Shirtsleeve Order”, ie khaki shirts, minus doublet and plaid, but otherwise No1 Dress — a smart, comfortable turnout for a public event.
Our other engagements in the Regimental Calendar were the Regimental Cocktail Party in the Castle, the Northern Ireland Commemoration Parade and Service, and Remembrance Sunday at the Alloa War Memorial.
The Band membership is healthy, as we have some new young recruits — but we would like to see more ex-Argylls coming to join us. However, we now get to meet with members of the A and SH Cadet Battalion who live locally and share the same practice night in Meadowforth Drill Hall. As a result, some of their Cadet Pipers and Drummers have played with us on several occasions — it’s great to have them with us.
