Their Past Your Future: End of Project

- but your Museum still needs your Memories

The Big Lottery Funded Oral History project, Their Past Your Future (TPYF), has now been completed and to prove it, we held an End-of-Project at Erskine on Tuesday 2 August 2010.

The party marked the end of this three-year project during which over 70 hours of memories were filmed and recorded from members of the Regimental Family including: serving Argylls; veterans; Territorial Army; Cadets; wives and children.  Edited highlights of those recordings, along with photographs and other interesting info, are featured on the Regiment’s section of the TPYF website Remembering Scotland at War: Pull up a Sandbag: Reminiscences of Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Many of the participants gathered for the party at Erskine, and after the odd glass of something and a sticky bun or two, were presented with DVDs of their oral histories.  Joy and George Collins pressed a large, red button and Pull up a Sandbag was formally launched onto an unsuspecting public!
One of the online exhibitions is called “Ponies & Pony Majors” and features memories about the current pony, Cruachan III, but also about his predecessor, Cruachan II. Allan Hoddgart, now resident at Erskine, recalls his time looking after Cruachan II, who is perhaps best remembered for his fondness for the odd tipple.  Allan compared notes with Pony Major William Perrie and seemed quite impressed with Cruachan III, although his tastes are apparently aimed towards carrots.
This project has been very important to the Museum, not least because we now have up-to-date recording equipment, which we do not intend to throw into a cupboard.  We want to continue to build up our oral history archive and want to hear from anyone who has any memories of life in or with the Argylls.
We still need your memories – so get in touch today!
Everyone’s memories are important and we will give you a copy of your interview on DVD for you and your family to treasure.
Come to the Castle or we will somehow get to you – have equipment, will travel!
