Argylls

Palestine, 1945 - 1948

The 1st Battalion arrived in Palestine towards the end of 1945. It found it was increasingly involved in internal security duties, such as keeping the peace between the Jewish and Arab populations, whose different factions were intent on carrying out attacks on each other and the British Military presence.  These duties included: guard duty; manning road blocks; patrolling; escorting convoys; cordon and search operations for weapons and explosives.
