Raising of the Regiments: 93rd Officer and Piper, c 1801

World Wars: In the trenches, First World War, 1914-1918 The Royal Regiment of Scotland: 16 Air Assault, training.

The history of any regiment is often told through its many battles and battle honours; and this regiment has its fair share.

However, it must be remembered that the Regiment will always be the sum of its soldiers, NCOs and officers who go where they were sent, do as they are told, fight the enemy and possibly lose their lives. But they were not just soldiers, they were also people; and we aim not only to tell the big story of the Regiment but the smaller stories of the men and the families that made our regiment as it was, as it is and will be in the future.

Did You Know?

In 1842, the barracks at Toronto (Canada) was several miles from the city and so the 93rd found it difficult to procure a dram.

Having made arrangements with a tavern keeper in the city, they trained a dog (one of the wise Newfoundland breed) to go to the tavern early every morning, with an empty beaker round his neck, and money in his mouth, and to bring back a supply.” Dr. Munro, Records of Service in Many Lands.
